It started with a girl

It is a classic story. Boy (Rem D Koolhaas)meets girl, they fall in love. Girl breaks boy’s heart and to woo her back he decides to turn his architectural training into creating a woman’s shoe. He  collaborates with a partner  (Galahad Clark,of the Clark shoe company), hence the birth of the ‘Möbius’ shoe, and United Nude.

Several years ago, I discovered a gem of a shoe store called “Gimme Shoes”, when I was in San Francisco. I had never seen shoes like these before. Mind you, United Nude was the forerunner of some of the latest gravity defying trends that we have lately seen on the runway.

I fell in love with the “Eamz” shoe. and found myself taken aback by the fact that this shoe could support one’s weight (the heel is made of high carbon fiber). To me these shoes were wearable industrial art, and most importantly, I had to have them!

The Eamz

The “Eamz” were actually quite comfortable, and in regards to supporting weight, they are pretty impressive. Several times, I have worn mine for 8 hours and that was primarily standing.

The price points start from $165.00 for the Elastic Weave pump to $1,295.00 for the Iris van Herpen X ankle bootie  (a collaboration shoe for the fashion designer).

United Nude opened a flagship store in New York in 2010, a must see when in the big apple. The store is primarily dark with light focused only on the  products. You will also see the “Lo Res Car” project which is located in the front of the store, after you see the car check out the “Lo Res” shoe, pretty cool.

If you cannot make it to a United Nude store, you can shop online. In my shopping cart, the Block ballet square toe and the Fold Hi bootie. My next treat, the Ultra Loop Bootie!
