To date I have been fortunate enough to make it through the holidays without receiving a Christmas sweater.

It is an akward situation, you are greeted by a loved one, given a nicely wrapped package. You carefully remove the wrapping, open the lid of the box, tear back the tissue and there before your very eyes…the dreaded christmas sweater!

I have been a witness to this kind of unveiling, and for reasons unknown, I immediately found myself commenting “Oh that is so nice, I love the reindeer,” “hey, we know what you will be wearing next christmas.” and then thinking  “whew, I dodged that one,” “why did I say that!,” “Oh god, I hope I don’t get a sweater next year.”

Our love ones mean well. If you have a relative, or family friend that tend to give you gifts that you know you’ll never wear or use. Try to redirect them to causes that your support. Take them to a shelter, drive by a home built by a charity, have them join you at a fund raiser. Introduce them to the positive impacts that these organizations make. Even if it is a few dollars, it will  make a difference. There are so many in need, especially during this season.
